Storm Shelter Reimbursement Programs for Oklahoma Residents
There are a number of storm shelter reimbursement programs to help Oklahoma’s homeowners pay for new storm shelters. The team at Storm Safe Shelters can help you determine if you community has a program and assist with the application.
Oklahoma City, Mustang, Yukon, and Stillwater offer tornado shelter rebates and grants as money becomes available from FEMA, Red Cross or various other foundations. More communities are adding these grant programs as they become available.
Many of these rebate programs are funded by the Red Cross thanks to donations that came from all over the world after the 2013 May tornadoes in Moore and the greater Oklahoma City.
The Chickasaw Nation also offers a program providing storm shelters for privately owned homes of Chickasaw citizens. Many other Tribal Nations are offering rebates and storm shelter programs to their citizens. Contact your tribal headquarters to find out more.
The SoonerSafe - Safe Room Rebate Program is another program available and was developed in 2011 by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management to provide a rebate for purchase and installation of safe rooms for Oklahoma homeowners. The state is providing this shelter rebate program through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. However, waiting times and wait lists for this program are very lengthy.
